Sony has announced it is moving forward with a Venom feature-film spin-off from the hugely-successful Spider-Man franchise.
With a reported 2010 release, the movie is not likely to star That 70s Show alumnus, Topher Grace, though no replacement has been mentioned. Producers are said to be looking for a rewrite on the original script, by Jacob Estes. A fourth Spider-Man movie is expected in 2011.
Interestingly, the industry "buzz" on this flick has Sony people comparing it to FOX' spin-off flick, Wolverine (X-Men) as in 'to extend the lifespan of the flagging franchise.' I say "interestingly" because I'm not sure these guys realize these characters and properties were franchises previous to their cinematic adaptations; technically, both franchises have been doing fairly well for nearly 50 years.

The Marvel Movie Empire keeps growing and growing. I'd really like to see someone other than Topher Grace though.
