Director Parts Ways with Twilight Series

Twilight director, Catherine Hardwicke, announced today she will not be returning to the series to direct the sequel, New Moon. Fans seem rather non-plussed by the announcement, with many crediting star, Robert Pattinson, as the reason for the movie's success and calling the movie "so-so" with "choppy editing." However, Hardwicke goes down in the records as having the biggest opening weekend ever for a female director. Twilight opened far bigger than even experts had predicted.

New Moon is expected to be released in late 2009 or early 2010.

And it begins...

According to NY Magazine, at least one insider claims Hardwicke was actually fired from the series. However Summit tries to spin it, it appears evident that Hardwicke was unwilling to work with a script that needed more work and do a rush-job in order to capitalize on the success of the first film.

According to some sources, American Pie director, Chris Weitz, has been offered the job. Weitz also directed The Golden Compass.
