Fantasy author and Elric creator, Michael Moorcock, announced that he will be writing a Dr. Who novel. The novel is the latest in the series which started in the 1960s, just as the show did. Moorcock said there are still meetings to be had and his submission will have to be okayed by editors and producers - which is "of course... understandable," he writes - but it is official.
Moorcock, a fan of the series since its inception, has been approached by the line's caretakers in the past, but for whatever reason(s), he says it only now "feels right." Michael Moorcock has written over 100 novels and his influence on authors such as Alan Moore and Gary Gygax is well-documented.
