Weird Al Yankovic's long-awaited return to film is finally coming to fruition, thanks to the good people over to the Cartoon Network. Writing on his blog, Weird Al said the contracts had been in works, literally for years, and the contracts were signed a few months ago, but he was legally obligated to keep it quiet until now. While the movie has not gotten the greenlight just yet, it is the first project Weird Al will present the network, so that's just a technicality.
Cartoon Network approached Weird Al to create content for them - "they were open to anything" - and the first thing he has coming is a full-length feature film, which he will direct and appear in, though he will not be the lead. It is not a sequel to 1989's UHF, and he will not be the star, but he is on the third draft of the script and filming may begin as early as fall of this year (following a tour).
Weird Al Yankovic has appeared on Cartoon Network many times throughout the last few years, usually doing VO for cartoons, and has appeared on [adult swim] shows several times, as well. By way of his wording, it sounds like Weird Al may produce a string of projects for the network, so fans may finally be able to get their Weird Al fix on a regular, and widely-accessible, basis from here on out!
