On Nightmares in Red, White and Blue - A Review

Nightmares in Red, White and Blue is an overwrought documentary following the history of horror movies. The filmmakers attempted to follow the progression of the cinematic horror tale throughout its history and to their credit, they do a good job, but Nightmares in Red, White and Blue exceeds its time limit, politicizes its subject far more often than necessary, and largely repeats information we've heard elsewhere for years now.

Despite all of that, it isn't a bad film. In fact, I suggest horror fans see it - casual fans, on the other hand, can safely skip it. As mentioned above, it does a fair job of presenting information others have taken whole books to dispense, so researchers may find it helpful. The main theory which fuels the film is that horror films react to the fears of the time, which we have all heard before. If you are already intimately familiar with this concept, you can probably skip this film.

Recommended for completeness but little else.
