Dark Horse is proud to announce that Mike Mignola's Hellboy and Gerard Way's The Umbrella Academy are now available on the iPhone.
At the time of their publication, both Seed of Destruction and Apocalypse Suite were immediately renowned by critics as unique and talented debuts by independent creators. Soon, industry heavyweights joined the chorus. Hellboy: Seed of Destruction is the beginning of the now legendary series Alan Moore calls, "a passport to a corner of funnybook heaven you may never want to leave." Similarly, Grant Morrison calls The Umbrella Academy "one of the great new comic books of this decade," while Newsarama says the first volume of the series, Apocalypse Suite, is "flawless."
With two blockbuster Hellboy films by Guillermo del Toro, and an Umbrella Academy movie in preproduction at Universal Studios, there's never been a better time to have the start of these monumental comics at your fingertips. A perfect way to introduce friends and pop-culture fans to two of the most important comics series today, or a great way to revisit the magic of amazing sequential art, the mobile editions of Seed of Destruction and Apocalypse Suite are a necessary addition for new and serious readers alike.
The first impressive issues of Hellboy and The Umbrella Academy are now available through the iTunes Store, with subsequent issues available soon. Seed of Destruction is available as four issues at $0.99 each, or as a bundle of all four issues for $3.99. The first issue of Apocalypse Suite is available for free (FOR A LIMITED TIME!), with issues #2–#6 only $0.99 each, or a bundle of all six issues for $4.99.

Umbrella Academy Action Figures
Gerard Way has managed to make quite a name for himself in the comics industry over the past year—racking up an Eisner for Best Limited Series and a Harvey for Best New Series, for his breakthrough miniseries The Umbrella Academy: Apocalypse Suite. In tandem with series artist, multiple-Eisner winner Gabriel Bá, Way has created a bizarre world which defies the space-time continuum, and pits a dysfunctional family of super-powered siblings against animated monuments, talking chimpanzees, a secret society of robot assassins, and each other.Right on the heels of the first issue of Way/Bá’s highly anticipated follow-up series, The Umbrella Academy: Dallas, Dark Horse Deluxe is proud to announce the release of a new figure set depicting the six members of The Umbrella Academy introduced in Apocalypse Suite, as well as a book-and-figure set that includes a hardcover edition of the first collected graphic novel and a 4-inch figure of Vanya, AKA The White Violin, the shunned UA sibling with the sinister set of strings!
The Umbrella Academy Book and Figure Set features a previously unused cover by Gabriel Bá for the special digest-sized hardcover. The included 4-inch figure depicts Vanya as The White Violin, poised to end the world in concert with The Conductor and his evil Orchestra Verdammten! It is scheduled for release in April 2009 at a suggested retail price of $24.99.The Umbrella Academy Figure Set features the six members of the Academy, sized to scale, with Spaceboy measuring a beastly 5-inches as the largest figure in the set, and The Boy stacking up at a small-but-substantial 2-inches. The Dark Horse Product Development team worked closely with Way and Bá, adding bold shadowing and strange angles to create uncanny likenesses that evoke the characters exactly as they appear in the comic. The final product is as unique and quirky as the story itself, encasing the six siblings in cylindrical 360-degree packaging that displays the team under an umbrella-shaped dome. See these superheroes in all of their splendor when they hit retail stores in May 2009, with a suggested price of $39.99.
“In my six years at Dark Horse, I have never experienced this much cooperation and inspired creativity on a project,” says Rebecca D’Madeiros, Senior Product Development Manager for Dark Horse Comics. “Gerard and Gabriel, the team here at Dark Horse, and the manufacturers have contributed a wealth of ideas for the figures and the unique packaging. It’s been great fun along the way. We are all proud of the outcome: a 6-piece figure set worth displaying on a revolving shelf with spotlights and soundtrack music!”

Umbrella Academy Returns This Fall!
Following the critically acclaimed, Harvey and Eisner Award-nominated miniseries, Apocalypse Suite, comes the newest chapter in the lives of the Umbrella Academy from series creator Gerard Way and artist Gabriel Bá: Dallas — a story as American as a 1961 Lincoln Continental, where everything will change, and yet... remain the same.
After the catastrophic events of Apocalypse Suite, the Umbrella Academy celebrates victory in the ruins of their former home. One member's bedridden and mutilated, following the brutal showdown with her siblings that saved the world, and another has lost her voice — a casualty of war — and along with it, all of her power. With another victory under their belts, and seemingly too much free time on their hands, what’s next for this sordid cast of misfit geniuses?
Find out this fall when Dallas hits stands November 26th, 2008, carrying a $2.99 price tag, and a special variant cover by the legendary artist Jim Lee.
About the Creators
Gerard Way began writing and drawing comics at age five when his grandmother first put a pencil in his hand. Having developed a love of the arts, Way attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where he honed his skills as both writer and artist before he made a career as a musician. He was a guest speaker at the prestigious Oxford Union, and was Grammy nominated for his art direction of the album The Black Parade Special Edition. His work on The Umbrella Academy has added nominations for both Eisner and Harvey Awards to his list of accomplishments. He currently lives with his wife in Los Angeles, California. He’s also in a band.
Multiple Eisner and Harvey Award nominee, Gabriel Bá, and his twin brother, Fábio Moon, have been telling comic-book stories for the last ten years in their hometown, São Paulo — Brazil's biggest megalopolis. Their first major US release, De:TALES, also from Dark Horse, collects stories that show their interest in human relations and their eye for the details that make each person unique. As an artist, after taking on the challenge of creating the sci-fi mind-bending Casanova with writer Matt Fraction, Bá saw with The Umbrella Academy the chance to work on a mainstream superhero project where he could get deep into the characters while throwing punches and flying around.

New Umbrella Academy Products!
I know, I know - talk about a late starts for a day! - but I had a lot of things to do today, including cooking a big meal. Actually, I have cooked all day (except breakfast).
Anyway, let's get into it all, starting with this official press release from Dark Horse:
Dark Horse Deluxe has announced that November 2007 will kick off an ongoing program of The Umbrella Academy merchandise designed exclusively for the fans of the comics series penned by Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance and illustrated by Eisner-nominated artist, Gabriel Bá. This month will see the release of the previously announced patches featuring The Umbrella Academy crest, The Kraken’s logo, The Rumor’s emblem, and the umbrella icon, as well as a four-pack of buttons with The Kraken’s logo, The Sparrow, The Rumor’s emblem, and the umbrella icon. There will also be men’s and women’s black T-shirts bearing a white umbrella icon. Additional products to watch for in the upcoming months include a coffee mug and—who could resist?—an umbrella. Stay tuned for details.
“I was able to go over a whole bunch of project ideas with Gerard. He really wants to have the right kind of fun stuff available for fans of the comic, but it is important to him that it make editorial sense as well,” says Product Development Manager Rebecca D’Madeiros “We thought these items would be good supplements to the story, drawing on the stylistic impact of the various logos. We also hope that this is just the tip of the iceberg—and a few other tricks may yet be up our sleeves!”
The Umbrella Academy: Apocalypse Suite is one of the most anticipated series of 2007, and has achieved critical acclaim and record-breaking sales since its September release. It is the story of seven extraordinary, maladjusted individuals who were adopted and raised by an eccentric space alien whose meager parenting skills left the siblings bitter and estranged. Nine years later, the members of the Umbrella Academy are reunited by the death of the only parent they’ve ever known and the rise of a new and terrible threat. Will they be able to overcome their history for long enough to save the world—one more time?
The patches and buttons will be available November 14, 2007 and will retail for $4.99–$5.99. The T-shirts will follow on November 28 for $29.99, and will be available in men’s and women’s styles.
