I swear to God, man, one of these press releases says it! It's either in one of the PRs in the archives (pretty recent, maybe two or three weeks) or the latest CBG - dude says, "I know it's cliched, but it really is going to CHANGE THE MARVEL ULTIMATES UNIVERSE FOREVER!"
I guess the Ultimates line was their way to fix all of their continuity errors without actually having to fix any. Just create a whole new Marvel Universe (not to be confused with the New Universe).
I am going to write about that and I started to bring it up a few times over, but Jim Shooter was the best thing that ever happened to Marvel and I don't care whatever else he did or what happened that led to such an acrimonious split, Marvel has never been the same since!
And Psi-Force was a damn good comic! The rest of the titles in that line basically blew, though.
I honestly think a lot of whatever happened had to do with the very fact that Jim Shooter did the New Universe! Because 417 5th Ave. was just overflowing with Old Men in those days - those Old Men who were always talking about how comics weren't going to be around tomorrow and the real money was in advertising...
I think he was seen as a brash upstart who had the temerity to try and do his own thing under the Marvel banner and a lot of Old Men didn't dig that at all.
You know, when they destroyed the New Universe, they specifically destroyed Pittsburgh because that was Shooter's hometown.
I didn't know about the Pittsburgh thing, very interesting. I read a book a while back called, "Comic Wars" by Dan Raviv it was all about the origins and aftermath of when Marvel went bankrupt. It was very interesting and quite well written. I recommend checking it out if you can find it.
Does it go into why Shooter left/got fired and all that? I have wondered that for years and years and everyone in the industry is so evasive about the whole thing!

It should prove to be the event that CHANGES THE ULTIMATE UNIVERSE FOREVER!

What the hell is this "Ultimates" thing, anyway?
