X-Files Returns to the Small Screen
The bad taste of a flopped 2008 movie out of their mouths, the team will attempt to recreate the drama, suspense, and joy fans felt when watching the original series.
Both Duchovny and Anderson have roles on other TV shows next season and nothing has been said of making The X-Files an open-ended (regular) TV series.

Agent Scully Joins Cast of Doctor Who
According to some sources, Gillian Anderson - Agent Scully from X-Files - will appear in the fifth series of Doctor Who as the Rani. Anderson is now residing in the UK and will appear onstage alongside former Doctor Who, Christopher Eccleston, in a production of Ibsen's A Doll House. The Rani is a classic villain of the Timelord's, dating back to the 1980's series, and was originally portrayed by Kate O'Mara.
The fifth series of Doctor Who features newcomer, Matt Smith, as the Timelord.

RIP: Kim Manners
The X-Files and Supernatural director, Kim Manners, died last night of lung cancer at Cedars-Sinai Hospital. He was 59. "Everyone at Supernatural is walking around in a daze," creator, Eric Kripke said in a statement released earlier today.
Manners began his career in TV back in the 1970s, but it was with The X-Files that he made an impression, garnering an impressive four Emmy nominations from the 52 episodes he directed. He helped launch Supernatural - the best show on TV - in 2005 and directed many of its most memorable episodes to-date, including the season finales.
Kim Manners worked on many classic TV shows, including Charlie's Angels, 21 Jump Street, Star Trek: TNG - even Baywatch. He was 59.

X-Files 3 Not Out of the Question
According to Frank Spotnitz, writer/producer of the last X-Files movie (I Want to Believe) - due out this Tuesday (December 2nd) on DVD - he and creator, Chris Carter, are discussing a third installment. If it happens, he plans to bring back the alien invasion mythology so prevalent in the latter seasons. "I honestly think that's the movie that most non-hardcore X-Files fans, as well as a lot of hardcore X-Files fans, are dying to see," he says. December, 2012, is a key date in this X-Files mythos, and Spotnitz suggests it would factor heavily in a third installment, should one materialize.
Spotnitz says I Want to Believe was "creamed at the theaters" by the success of The Dark Knight, though many fans and critics suggest it was a weak film. It received universally mixed reviews.

X-Files' Anderson Bears Son
The X-Files' Giilian Anderson (Agent Scully) gave birth to a son October 15th.
The newborn, named Felix, joins siblings Oscar (2) and Piper(14). Felix was born in London. Her husband said she did not knowingly name the boys after the lead characters from the classic comedy The Odd Couple and even when he pointed it out to her, it "didn't quite sink in."

Duchovny Released from Rehab
X-Files star, David Duchovny, was released from rehab today, after undergoing a course for sex addiction.
Duchovny, who now plays a character suffering the same affliction in Showtime's Californication, admitted to being addicted to sex in late August. He also admitted to having cheated on wife, Tea Leoni.
The second X-Files movie, I Want to Believe, bombed at the box office this summer amidst stiff competition, but I expect it to make good in cable runs.

Chris Carter Hospitalized
X-Files creator, Chris Carter, was hospitalized Tuesday for exhaustion and an acute sleeping disorder.
Sources say it has to do with working on two films back to back, including the dismal X-Files: I Want to Believe sequel. While tests suggest his lack of sleep has nothing to do with nightly visits from aliens, they cannot explain weird technology found in his butt.

Dark Knight Reigns, X-Files Bombs
The Dark Knight maintained the top box office spot this past weekend, raking in over $300 million in the last two weeks. The movie has already shattered record after record during its run and adds another to the list: most made by a movie in its second week ($75+ million).
The X-files new outing, I Want to Believe, landed at #4 on the charts, with just over $10 million. It has received mixed reviews, most of which are disappointing, and some sources note that the majority of these reviews are from those over 25 (which would be its core - and/or target - audience, as the series ended nearly 10 years ago). However, the movie cost right at $30 million to make, which means (as I said in the post referenced above) the franchise may still be reinvigorated after it reaches home audiences.
Hancock, Wall E, Hellboy II, and Wanted all remained in the top ten, with Hancock passing the $200 million mark.

"X" for MiXed Reviews
The latest chapter in the flagging X-Files series, I Want to Believe, is receiving mixed reviews and does not look to topple The Dark Knight. Of course, few thought it would, but there were a lot of us hoping the title would be reinvigorated.
Who knows? It still may be. After all, unlike even when the first flick was released, the entire industry is simply different - completely different. Even if X-Files: I Want to Believe completely bombs-out at the box-office, it is nowhere near down for the count.
Within months, it will have made its way to DVD and PPV. A few months after that, it will premiere on one of the pay cable stations and go into heavy rotation shortly afterward. It should receive a respectable run there for about a year or so before it makes its first basic cable premiere. There, it will be buffetted (sp?) by marathons of the original episodes and will draw-in the newer fans who have only the reruns to go by.
So, X-Files may or may not have made its final bow, but there is still hope the franchise will receive a shot in the arm from this latest outing.

X-Files: I Want to Believe
Though it may sound a little goofy at first, the title of the latest X-Files movie has been settled. The sequel to the 1998 major motion feature will be entitled, X-Files: I Want to Believe.
Die-hard fans may recall that this is the caption on the poster which hung in Mulder's basement throughout the run of the hit FOX show, which called it quits in 2002. According to Chris Carter, creator of the franchise, this was the working title from the beginning, but they were not sure if the studio would sign-off on it. In fact, the studio did not agree to it until just today.
Carter went on to say that while the movie is really made for the rabid fans, there is a whole new generation of possible fans they want to reach-out to. The new feature will not rehash the muddled mythos of the series, but will instead be a stand-alone story involving the Supernatural. While feature players include Xzibit, Amanda Peet, and Billy Connolly, no one is saying if series regulars such as Mitch Pileggi will be returning.
Carter said they went to "comical lengths" to keep the project shrouded in secrecy, including limiting the full script to key crew, who were only allowed to read it in a locked room, monitored by cameras!

Showtime Sued for Californication
The Red Hot Chili Peppers are suing Showtime Networks over the new Californication TV show title. But it isn't just the title they discuss in their suit; apparently, the Chili Peppers have been cited and referenced a few times in the show.
Former X-Files star, David Duchovny, stars as a writer who decides to "sleep his way across the Southland," according to E! Online. I do not get Showtime and have not seen the show. I sometimes get a free weekend and I think there was one here recently, but I missed it somehow. It isn't hard to do when they show the commercial one time two weeks before it happens...
Still, Californication hasn't exactly set the entertainment world on fire; most of the reviews I've seen are lukewarm, at best.
Showtime spokespeople had not commented on the lawsuit.

New X-Files Movie
That’s right! A few years back, I remember David Duchovny on one of the talk shows announcing that he would be more than willing to do another X-Files movie, but that has been several years ago. I, like everyone else, pretty much assumed the whole thing was dead.
But according to Duchovny himself, who is starring as a novelist in a new TV sit-com, Californication, he is set to receive a script next week. The script is co-written by the series creator, Chris Carter, but Duchovny had no further details. He did say that both he and Gillian Anderson, another of the series’ original stars, are signed to the deal, should it go through.
