So I called the Lexington (TN) Electric Company earlier this week - this is the same company which went around and around with me for about six months, trying to convince me they had sent a $40 check back to the bank (because utility companies do that... oh that's right, they do not - nor did this one) - and they got smart with me both times. They provided me no information, were curt, and basically told me I have to find a ride 20 miles into town - absolutely no other options, not for the disabled, not for the elderly, not for shit - and bring my driver's license and something with my social security number on it.
So I do this.
And then they tell me I need a $75 security deposit, along with a $25 connection fee, as well as a $25 same-day service fee. Regardless of the fact that I have been a customer there for over three years now - so long, in fact, that they showed me where they had refunded me the $50 security deposit I made three damned years ago - you know, because I was such a good and timely customer.
I don't have $125! I didn't even know I needed $125, otherwise I may well have been able to do something about it before the 1st, you know? I honestly don't know what, but still...
Now, here's the real kicker: I have over $250 credited to my account right now. The Lexington Electric Company (aka, LES) - that's Lexington, TN, you understand - told me that would be applied to my bill, but not my $125 connection fee.
It costs $120 non-refundable to connect gas and water. This is in addition to the $125.

Art Class - Results
This is a very small town and I don't begrudge these old cats anything, but I have to say this: anyone with any amount of knowledge or power in or around this town lets it go straight to their heads. It's ridiculous.Today, one of the locals who attended Art College in Boston back in The Day (like 35 years ago) literally took over the class. Thankfully, he had us doing some actual exercises; our regular instructor is a far better artist than teacher and he keeps teaching us the Very Basics (as you can see in the accompanying picture).
Today, we did gestures and blind contours - exercises I remember well - but there's just no way I can bring those to you. The 98 machine keeps running out of resources doing all of this, so I'm having to swap files between boxes constantly to resize, edit, watermark, etc. - just too much of a hassle and the work is too faint to show well.
At any rate, these are some the faces I did on February 21st (last week), when we were learning faces. All I did electronically is move the images so they fit in a smaller area and change the paper's background color (which scanned a light blue) to white. I'm pretty sure it lost a few lines when I did that, but you get the gist of things.
But back to what I was saying:
I enjoy the class and all, but these people - everyone in Decatur County, TN - suck so hard, it's flatly unimaginable. You really would not believe this until you've experienced it for yourself.
While this cat droned on and on about what Art really is and how we should hold the pencil and all this "I love the sound of my voice and you should too, because I am very obviously An Authority Figure - listen to me! I am important!" shit, one of the little girls in the class stole a book I'd brought in to share with some of those little girls!
Several of them are into manga, so I brought in a couple of those "How to Draw Manga"-type books (I think these were "Superheroes" and "Superheroines") and damn if I didn't have to ask the entire class if someone had the other book! And everyone in the class knew who had the book, yet not one of them said a frigging word! I knew who had the book because I'd seen her with it earlier!
If she weren't trying to thieve it, she would have simply said, "Oh, I thought we could borrow them; I have it." Because the regular instructor has told us several times that we can take home any of the books he brings in. I certainly wouldn't have minded - I'd have been happy to let her take it home, so long as she brought it back when she was done! - but she was looking to steal it.
So I get home and got into The Art Box because I was looking for my charcoal crayons - I bought a whole pack a while back - and couldn't find them. Then it occurred to me I had taken them up there a few weeks back to share with the class... and someone obviously stole the entire box right out of my bag!
Decatur County, TN is filled with nothing but thieves, liars, drug addicts, corrupt cops, and just awful people. And no one bothers to call them on it because they're all just like them! It's a sociological issue and the only way to solve it is to burn the whole place to the gro... to start teaching the children how to behave properly - instill in them the morals and conduct that should have been instilled in their hillbilly parents, and...
Oh, why bother.

Local Art School
I read in the local paper where a guy is offering art courses a few blocks from my home. So I decided to take him up on his offer.
It's been a few years since I seriously involved myself in offline art; almost everything I've done in the last few years has been on the computer. They really are two different worlds, even though you bring a lot of what you learn from both into the other. I've missed it, but I'm worried about getting back on that horse - I just don't feel the drive to draw that I once did. So I'm hoping this brings it back and I mean to give it my all.
He said we're going to be given "homework" and he seems to take himself quite seriously. I plan to go in without any ego, whatsoever - as though I don't know how to draw and know nothing about art - because I want to learn whatever he has to teach me. So I'm not bringing any old sketchpads or equipment - just a notepad, no. 2 pencil, and he said to bring a ruler and a "white eraser." He was very clear about that: "a white eraser." I wondered how many people would actually have a white eraser or know where to find one in this one-horse town, so that may be why he emphasized it so?
Whatever. I have one, so I'm going to check it out. With my white eraser.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Slow but Comfortable
I know, I know - I said I would be here today and I haven't been. But I got dragged out of the house by a friend and we ended up...
She has a house that burned. She does real estate and she has several houses. One of them burned and she's invested a whole lot of money in refurbishing it. In so doing, they moved most of the stuff that was inside the house into a little barn-looking shed out back. Obviously no one lives at the property and the people living behind it have been stealing things out of the shed.
Now, this is Decatur County, TN: these people know the police are not going to do anything if they are not stealing from someone who "contributes" to the Police Fund, so they don't even bother with little, niggling things like hiding the evidence or anything so troublesome. That being the case, we were able to literally look into their yard and see the items they had stolen - a picnic bench (which they'd broken in two by placing a car motor on it), an armoire, a bed, and some assorted other things. So we had to walk over there and bring them back.
The people were home! In fact, they walked home from a neighbor's and kept their heads down so as not to face us! Just walked right on by us as we were moving my friend's stolen goods back onto her property, like we weren't even there! The female of the group came back around the corner from the convenience store and glared at us at first, but as she got closer and realized we weren't backing down, she also dropped her head and avoided us going into the house.
Like I said, the entire county is the most corrupt place I have ever even heard of, so my friend didn't bother filing a report. We tried to get the window they'd knocked-out back on the shed, but they had completely popped it out of the frame and it would not stay. We propped it up as best we could, put the padlock back on the door, and left.
It's a catch-22: why would we "donate" to the "Police Fund" when the cops do nothing to protect us and everything within their power to harass us every step of the way? Of course, since we refuse to "donate," we have no police protection.

A More Aggressive Approach to Decatur County, TN
I am looking for any and everyone teo help me get the word about this travesty, as well as guest-bloggers to fill-in while I am otherwise preoccupied with handling this horrible thing.
This is a very, very real thing; like I said, if it sounds like I am making a mountain out of a molehill, please realize that they are going to violate me for probation at the end of this month if I have not paid the remainder of the $300 I owe them, which may or may not be possible. This also does not preclude them from "misplacing" more documents, such as payments.
These are really, honest-to-God, small-town, hick cowboys who specifically say "Our System" instead of "The System" and can never answer a straight question. Whenever something does not jibe with established precedent, set federal and state laws, and so forth, they claim it is a "DECATUR COUNTY POLICY."
The 911 operator told me "there's nothing [I] could do about because [I'm] not an attorney, you little bastard. So SUBPOENA ME! SUBPOENA ME! Motherfucker." (08-23-2007)
Kenny Fox threatened to kill me and throw me in the river. Upon arrest, I mentioned it to the arresting officer, who said, "Well? Don't you think you ought to think about that?" (August 12, 13, 14, or 15, 2007)
In the jail, several officers repeatedly told me, "You did this to yourself."
I refused to sign the warrant for which they picked me up and they admitted they did not have it when they came to the door - proving my cooperation. I requested lawyer and they told me, "Shit, we don't need to go through all that! Just sign the fucking papers." The unidentified officer was verbally abusive, intimidating, and threatening. I never signed the warrant and Kenny Fox admitted on the stand that the signature was his. (October 1, 2007)
According to the Decatur County Clerk's office, there are no recordings, no minutes, and no files detailing the "trial."
When I discussed this with an authority he said, "It sounds like time to get the TBI involved." Before I could say much more, he said, "Let me ask you: was Kenny Fox involved?"
"Yes! He was the main instigator! How did you even..."
"He has a long record of this kind of stuff."
"With me you mean, or in general?"
"Oh no, he said - just a lo-ong record!"
The probation officer told me today that they will violate me for probation at the end of this month (IF they wait that long) because it doesn't matter how long the judge gave me; he doesn't keep up with that sort of thing. When asked if this was a "Decatur County Policy," the secretary became abusive with me. I explained:
"That's what I have been told whenever a Decatur County Policy law differes from State and Federal Laws and I am just wondering if that is a matter of Decatur County Policy or if this is the way things are handled elsewhere."
Curtly, she said, "I don't know how other counties handle it."
ANY help, ALL guest-bloggers - any money to help pay off the fine (you will be paid-back, though it will take several months) - ANY AND EVERYTHING!
Anything might help. Thanks again!
