Trollhound for UniSystem

The Trollhound appeared in Dragon #199 and was written (and assumed to be) conceived by Alec Baclawski. It is converted here without permission but in no way to challenge anyone's rights. It's just really cool; basically a Barghest for Trollkin.

A carnivorous beast standing 4-6' tall at the shoulder. Its blackened mouth reeks of death, decay, and fresh blood. Throwing meat in front of them will stop their advancement on 1-9.

Trollhounds' blood, teeth, flesh, and hair are used in various Enchantments, poisons, salves, and potions. They are born in litters of d4. The young begin hunting by day five, but are worth up to 10k¥ before then. After day five, the pups are still worth a cool 5k¥. The individual components are worth substantially less on most markets, though spellcasters will pay a premium. After one month, they can no longer be tamed by other races and are likely to attack if cornered.

On a 1-3, trollhounds appear in a troll's cave. On a 1, this include d4 pups. Trollhounds cannot be Familiars. It is also unlikely that they would make good pets (Companion Quality) except for Trolls; they are likely to suffer from impulsivity control issues, using the bathroom freely, tearing-up items, and generally running amok, though not necessarily being violent (especially to anyone who feeds them regularly).

Direct confrontation is not suggested, as Trollhounds' bite is toxic.
