An Embarrassment of Riches

'Tis the season, and I lucked-out, having found a passel of Buffy the Vampire Slayer Roleplaying Game supplements online. Some of these are very official but did not receive an official release and were kept alive by the community, while others were created by the community.

Because of the lengths of these books (one is almost 400 pages!), and the fact that some of these supplements use the comic series as though it were also "official," I have so much reading to do... luckily, I do understand the system so, although these sources are exciting, some of the information is redundant since I already developed similar means of my own before I got these new sources. I've also been collecting the comic book series and its many offshoots for decades now, although I haven't read them all yet.

Just like the Perception thing, I'm happy to do a little more work converting my own decisions into more official terms, but I'm not going to use everything in these books. Several of them have multiple new spells in addition to new rules and guidelines, and I have to assign those to Tomes and libraries, determine how and where they can be found, and so forth before adding them to my game, proper. The same holds true with Qualities and Drawbacks I've already established, or that appear elsewhere in the UniSystem line but were not included in these particular books, such as Breathe Underwater vs. Amphibious -- both of which appear in the UniSystem line but not in all of the books for different games.

Eden was trying to separate Buffy from the Angel Roleplaying Game somewhat, by releasing specific sourcebooks for each line as though they were distinct, but you really need both Core books to play the game without a bunch of hiccups along the way. As such, one of these official books only adds three Qualities from the Buffy Corebook to the Angel RPG. I'm not going that route, having decided to take the information in all of the Cinematic UniSystem books to cobble together the game I want to play.

Your game will certainly be different from mine and I highly suggest looking for these supplements for yourself, as I cannot provide links to them because I do not know their real-world legality or copyright standing. As such, most are abandoned works that have appeared online for almost 20 years now, so I can only assume they are safe to download.

This also means that I am likely to rewrite some of the stuff I've already released to fit better with the information in these semi-official sources.
