Harry Potter Hater Denied

Yet another completely ridiculous story that's making headlines, as some dumb Bible-beater is trying to take her fight against the Harry Potter series to a federal level, after a GA state judge denied her case. The woman, from Georgia, has been trying to get the books out of her son's school for some time now.

But she openly admits she has never read a single book in the series!

Her claim is that the series promotes Witchcraft, which is a federally-recognized religion with tax-exempt status. She - almost correctly - says that the public would never allow this for Christian literature, but I say almost because there is plenty of Christian-based literature in the public libraries (Chronicles of Narnia).

This woman and her supporters are suggesting that reading these books leads young people into Witchcraft and claims that some Pagan Federation admits a surge of interest from American youths, which they attribute to the Harry Potter series.

As a confirmed Christian with some Conservative beliefs and values, I'd like these women to be openly mocked and publicly exposed. Harry Potter is directly responsible for a youth movement in America, alright: it's called reading. Maybe if either of these dummies bothered reading anything other than The Holy Bible or books about The Holy Bible, they might just graduate to a worldview which encompasses things like literature, art, and other things. These women are far less concerned with their children's safety than in promoting their religion, and I do not believe it anymore correct for them to be forcibly proselytizing through censorship than it is for Christians who oppose abortion to physically attack the doctors or patients who support it.

These people are the very reason Christians are being marginalized in America. It's why so many of us keep our religion to ourselves and also the reason so many others feel justified in mocking us. I want everyone to know that not every Christian believes the nutty bullshit Bible-thumpers like this do. In fact, many of us try very hard to distance ourselves from such basketcases.
