Okay, so I got up this morning - yes, this morning - and spoke with some advocacy agency who didn't bother to mention until 10 minutes into the call that I had already spoken with them and they do not handle individual cases. They are more a big-time, sue the state kind of agency. Well, why not tell me that at the first of the call or even the first time I called?
So I called a "completely free legal advice" line and they told me it cost $35 for a consultation. They gave me the number to the "completely free legal advice" for civil suits line and they told me they were only accepting personal injury and medical malpractice suits...
So I logged on and was going to get to work when the internet broke. I tried and tried and kept getting this "remote computer did not respond in time" message. I called and they told me to try this and that - things and settings I already knew but didn't try because I had never had these problems before - and when it still didn't work, I called back and they finally told me there was an outage in the entire area, thanks to the big storm we had last night. Which was good to know because that's what I had told them and they had me worried I was going to have to get a new modem. Again.
Luckily, I spent the afternoon sleeping and then it got fixed.
I have some news to get to you and I want to direct your attention to a comment left by a reader on the continuing (hopefully closing) story of the legal harassment I have been suffering about her own "non-emergency 911 call" charge.
I called this morning and dropped the appeal because I can't find anyone to tell me shit and can't afford an attorney anyway. I found out online that I might have to fill-out a Notice of Voluntary Dismissal, but the County Clerk called me and said not to bother, the DA would have it "remanded." I do not know what that means, so I am glad the Web got un-broke so I can find out.
I am still not 100% certain they won't add new charges of some nature or try to charge me with something else on down the road - you know, something - it's just the way they are around here ("they just do what they want to"), and it has me just sick. I am going to try whatever I can to move the hell out of here ASAP, but seeing as how I have to pay them $500 in fines and costs, I don't even know how the hell I'm going to come up with that.
Oh! Then I got a notice from the electric company telling me that I have until tomorrow to pay them over $100 or else they're shutting off my lights! Thanks to some kind of "new system" they switched to back in April and some kind of musical checks they supposedly played with my bank, which does not show up on my statements and the bank disputes, as well. They gave me until Monday to get it together, but I don't have $100; shit, thanks to a check that was held for like 2 months, I am $6.46 overdrawn!
When it rains, it pours. I just wish that were true for good luck!
