Fringe's second episode had a near-unprecedented spike in numbers for its second episode. The series premiere debuted to rather moderate ratings, which I found disheartening, given the amount of hype the new JJ Abrams' series had received online (offline, it fell prey to FOX' usual lackluster PR department). But FOX spokespeople said the 68% jump from that was the highest increase for a drama's second episode in five years.
It may seem that the lead-in, House, helped the episode gain nearly 70% more viewers, but House's own ratings were down nearly 30% from last year. Still, FOX handily won the evening.
Popular Mechanics is having a field day debunking the fringe science after which the show is named and on which it is based. What they do not mention is that some of the fringe science concepts introduced are real concepts fringe scientists and Phenomenalists are sometimes interested in, but even they are corrupted from their origins. Obviously, someone needs to tell Popular Mechanics that it is just a TV show.
