Disney will not finance the third movie in the Narnia franchise, TheVoyage of the Dawn Trader. Without elaborating, Disney spokespeople cited "budgetary and logistical reasons." The franchise will continue on, just without Disney's involvement. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is already in preproduction, with a spring shoot set, and expected release in 2010. The talent attached to the project seems to be the major component in question.
According to some reports, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader will go forward as planned, albeit with a new distributor (Fox is the likeliest candidate). The Golden Compass was set for franchise, but the plans were scrapped when the first movie bombed. While Narnia fared well with its first two outings, returns for the sequel (Prince Caspian) were well off those of the first film, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.
