Day One for NBC

NBC has greenlighted a post-apocalyptic drama entitled Day One. Day One, from Heroes writer-producer, Jesse Alexander, follows the travails of a group who survived a massive global event as they struggle to rebuild society and find out what happened. Jericho Day One is not the only futuristic sci-fi drama debuting in 2009.

ABC is bringing back the classic V, in which mouse-eating aliens have invaded the planet. The actual creator of the original V franchise, Kenneth Johnson, is not involved in this project; he is holding-out for a full-featured adaptation of V and will not compromise. 4400 co-creator, Scott Peters, is the new shepherd of the project. He said
they will not rehash the old series' plot and themes, but would remain true to the spirit of the original. It will open with the invasion, center on a homeland security official and her son, and several storylines will unfold simultaneously. Let's just hope they handle that as well as the original series did and not as, say, Heroes has...

ABC also ordered the pilot for Flash Forward, in which everyone in the world blacks-out for two minutes and 17 seconds and has a disturbing vision of the future. Flash Forward is written by Batman Begins scribe, David Goyer, along with Brannon Braga, who has written for numerous Star Trek series, as well as 24. It will be executive produced by Vince Gerardis and Ralph M. Vicinanza (who own the book rights), who recently brought us Jumper.

2009 is shaping-up to be a good year for sci-fi on the major networks. Be sure to tune-in for these series' cancellations!
