Comics Day

It may seem to some that everyday is Comics Day around here, but it really isn't. In fact, things have been so out-of-wack on just everything, from every angle, this year that I haven't had a Comics Day. But I got a huge shipment of back issues and stuff in last week and I literally had to pull my entire collection (excepting the "sell" boxes) in order to figure out what I have, what I need, if anything's missing, etc., and they're all setting in the floor.

I messed with this off and on all weekend, but I'm still nowhere near finished, so I'm going to do that. I'm also going to pull several titles and actually read them... I was trying to grab first issues and collectibles (which is good), as well as some of the crossovers (whenever characters I collect appear in other comics, et.al.), and still get my regular series. Needless to say, it's very easy to get in over your head this way and I honestly haven't been reading half of what I was buying. I'm going to sit down and read some of this stuff, then decide on my purchases the way informed consumers do.

I'll post more today - may even review a few titles - and will be around.

-reading Uncanny X-Men 501-512-

Why the fuck are the X-Men suddenly smiling at the audience all the time? Is Greg Land suffering from some sort of Joker-induced mouth affliction? Are the X-Men?

What... what's happening?

SPOILERS

Okay, so when I first saw the cover to Uncanny #501, I figured Cyclops was carrying Maddy Pryor - who's been resurrected more times than Fu motherfucking Manchu - and I rolled my eyes while shaking my head (not an easy task). Well, it wasn't Maddy; it was a newer, younger team member who doesn't really look anything like the person depicted on the cover.

Of course, Madelyne Pryor is alive again and, of course, she's a Baddie... again. And Cyclops finds this all out (because I really think everyone else in the audience saw it like I did, especially since [in retrospect] it seems that was the entire point of the cover to #501) an issue or two later.

And I have to admit, I'm disappointed. I'm thankful I wasn't having a stroke! I still do not know why all the X-Men keep mugging the camera and leering at me, but I'm at least certain I'm not stroking-out. So... you know, there's that, but still... disappointed.
