You've probably heard by now that former Family Ties star, Meredith Baxter, came out of the closet this morning. I, too, have an admission to make... though it's nowhere near as controversial, nor does anyone really care because I'm not a celebrity - but here it is:
I apologize for things being so slow lately, but there are a lot of reasons. The holidays are certainly a factor, as was the Halloween roll-out (which, with a few glaring exceptions, was pretty successful), but there is the Medical Thing.
I used to discuss the Medical Thing all the time because I went off my meds for a year. I have been on powerful pain medications for about three years now, however I have been stepped-down off them the last few months. I didn't expect the... I guess it is, literally, "withdrawal." Like I say, I went off them on my own through all of 2008, mainly because it was just more of a hassle than (I thought) it worth. A change of medical venues fixed that, but I didn't realize that then.
Anyway, I simply haven't had the strength nor desire to work lately. I had to clean the entire house earlier in the week because it had gone so long without it. Like anyone, I just clean the windows, mop the floor, whatever, whenever I notice they're dirty and really need it. I developed a serious sinus infection which I put down to the pain meds thing for a month or so before I finally sought attention for it. Once I did, I realized it was a sinus infection, and that's when I noticed all the dust and just general dirt which had accumulated over the last few months (when I've been more focused on the site, the holidays, and "getting clean").
I'm feeling a bit better now, but it's still a struggle. Not least of that struggle being the fact that I'm simply off pain meds once again; it took a week or so, but the pain is back in full-force now, so (once again), there are days when I'm simply bed-ridden. I'll be out for at least an entire week, probably two, next month following the surgery. If the surgery doesn't fix it - and, sadly, the outlook is about 50/50 - I will undergo another in the Spring, and will eventually go back on pain meds. But some friends and family members have undergone this surgery and come out much better because of it, so I'm hopeful.
Either way, I know things have been slow, hits prove this, and I didn't want you to think I was just unceremoniously phasing-out the blogs or quitting, entirely. I love The Rundown, I started it specifically because I could no longer draw comic books industriously (nor read them - nor anything - because of having to hang my head for long periods), and I plan to continue doing it for as long as I can, it's just... it is what it is right now and though I apologize, there's nothing I can do about it but allow it to play-out on its own.
I hope y'all understand and continue to visit, as I will continue to work as often as possible. Thanks again for your support and all such!
