Comedic character actor, Randy Quaid, and his wife, Evi, were arrested over the weekend in Santa Barbara on felony burglary charges and misdemeanor entering a noncommercial building without consent. Evi Quaid was also charged with resisting arrest.
According to reports, police responded Saturday to a call that a couple had been staying in a Montecito residence guest house without permission. The Quaids told police they owned the property, but a representative for the homeowner provided documentation proving it had been purchased in 2007 from a man who had bought it from the Quaids -- back in the 1990s! A contractor then showed police an estimated $5000+ in damages to the guest house, which he blamed on the couple. Bail was set at $50,000 apiece.
Randy and Evi Quaid have been in this position before -- quite recently, in fact: A year ago this month, they were charged with defrauding a Montecito hotelier of $10k+ when Evi Quaid used an invalid credit card at San Ysidro Ranch, That also netted them conspiracy and burglary charges. The Senior DA, Arnie Tolks, said the pair had also used an invalid card at The Biltmore, another luxury resort in Santa Barbara.
Though felony charges against the actor were dropped, Randy Quaid's wife, Evi, pleaded no contest to the misdemeanor charge of defrauding an innkeeper and was sentenced to three years' probation and 240 hours of community service.
