Once again, I could not sleep and, once again, [adult swim] took me in like the wayward stepson I am. So here I am at 3-some-odd in the AM, watching a Venture Bros. rerun and then some good old Frisky Dingo, when it occurred to me that I basically missed both seasons of these shows! Was it just me?
I saw a single article related to the season finale of Venture Brothers and though it was positive, it was the only one I saw! I saw nothing relating to Frisky Dingo and am not even sure if it is coming back! I hope it does because when it rocked, it ROCKED. When you see an episode of Sealab 2021 against basically any episode of Frisky Dingo, there is just no comparison; Frisky Dingo blows Sealab right out of the water - literally. And yet, neither show managed to generate so much as a slight buzz online - at least not one I noticed.
I love both shows and hope they both continue on for many, many seasons, but I have to wonder if most everyone else lost the [adult swim] vibe there for the last year or so. The programming really hit the shitter and stayed there a while. I think a whole lot of the audience - myself included - moved on to other late-night fare and it is hard to get back in the [as] swing.
Publick and 70/30 should jump all over Ted Turner; the programming snafu seems to have hit their little projects quite hard.

UPDATE: The Weirding
I know I just reminded everyone that we don't do "UPDATE" posts anymore, but this is different; this is more of a PR I guess.
I am working on getting as much of the Chill stuff up as I can today because all that really needs to be done with most of it is reformatting. I am still working on the Champions stuff, too; new content and formatting will continue on that. After that, I'll probably move on to the Dark Conspiracy material and finally, Cyberpunk. Both of those are going to take a lot of work, but I want something up so you can get used to navigating through it, etc. And for the search engines' sake.
The 70/30 (Frisky Dingo) and Hyrum Savage Interviews also have to be reformatted and will be back up soon. Though they will be moved, the old URLs will redirect to the new locations, so there's no need to update your links. As soon as they are back up, the links to them will be back up here.

Adult Swim Scores!
Well, tonight was a good one! FINALLY!
It's been a pretty damned long time since Adult Swim actually had an entire night of decent entertainment. Over the past year or so, we have gotten a lot of nights with one or two good shows, a few nights with an entire night of pretty good shows, and night after night of abject shit.
Tonight's Aqua Teen Hunger Force was actually funny! My guess is that someone got sick and they had to let the intern who really, really loves the show step-in at the last minute to do punch-ups ("Punch-ups? Like donkeypunchin'? Like DP? Remember - you remember that one? What... like what was your thought process - like, what were you thinking when you wrote that one?"). They even got to be subversive while they did it! See? Being subversive and funny are actually not mutually exclusive concepts, y'all! Let's try to keep it up, can we?
After that was the premiere of Fuh-risky Dingo, and those cats just can't do no wrong. Truly funny stuff.
The OddBlog template upgrade did not go as planned, but the good thing is that the feed is working again (for now). I found a template which should work and I am going to try and get it online tomorrow, once I am done doing all my bill-paying and stuff. If I don't end up back in jail (knock wood). In the meantime, I am going to leave it on the BlogSpot server so I can get more done; it takes way too long to publish via FTP. There is also another option I am looking into tomorrow, but couldn't find out more about before then because my ISP's customer service is closed over the weekends. After that, I am going to change the template here to our fair Rundown.
There is a whole lot of new RPG content headed for The Weirding this month, as well. I am trying to get sponsors and advertisers situated before I start publishing, because once I publish them, I am going to be aggressively promoting and marketing the entire thing. There will be a general sitewide update, but it will mostly be transparent to viewers - minor changes and bug corrections.
So, here's to new beginnings all the way around: Adult Swim is finally funny again (knock wood) and The Weirding is actually getting some content (God willing)!
It's like Christmas without all the condoms.

The Frisky Dingo Interview Returns!
FINALLY! The Frisky Dingo interview (with 70-30's Matt Thompson, co-creator of the series, as well as Sealab 2021) is back up... I hope.
I worked on it all night Saturday and while everything looked fine on this end, when I uploaded it, all the URLs for the pictures got hosed. Don't ask me how or why - I've tried all day to figure it out. I reset everything on this end and it still did it when I uploaded them. So I went in and manually fixed all the links and everything looks okay now... but I'm just guessing.
Like I said over to The Wording, it's like the car thing: it works fine one second, then it won't start for shit, then it cranks right up... and, just like the car, I tore these pages apart, hard-coded the problem areas, double-checked all the settings, and it still wouldn't act right once it hit the server!
At any rate, the interview is back up and I have to say, it's a pretty fun read, so if you haven't seen it yet, make sure to make it an Action Item on your To-Do List.

More Boob Tube Dish
My folks came by today and gave me the Christmas gifts my brother got for me (he didn't come up due to work). He got me three DVDs: the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Special Edition, Goodfellas (which wasn't so much a gift as a replacement, since he got my video!), and Sin City. Unfortunately, the Sin City DVD got lost somewhere in the car (I hope...), which really heaves, because it's the only one of the three I haven't seen and I've been waiting to see it pretty much since it came out. I would have gone to the theater to see it, but that just wasn't possible back when it first came out, for all kinds of reasons.
I kept saying I was going to order Beerfest (Broken Lizard) on PPV, but I screwed around and missed the chance. They usually have the same movies on there for at least a month or two, but not this time. Figures. I had unhooked the VCR because I couldn't get the DVD player to work with it and, since this is the very first time I've gotten a truly clear picture on this thing, I'm afraid to screw with it.
Ah well... I don't feel like fooling with any of it now anyway.
Frisky Dingo started over from the first episode tonight, so if you missed it the first time through, definitely check it out! It's the funniest thing on [adult swim] since Aqua Teen jumped the shark.
And then, my folks gave me a buttload of videos. One of the chain video stores has been selling their VHS tapes so my dad's been buying them up, and you wouldn't believe all the cool flicks he's come across these past few weeks! I got an entire boxload of horror flicks a while back, and this round brought me:

More Boringnessosity
Alright, I think I'm going to move The Rundown over to The Weirding domain, which theoretically should not only not be news, but shouldn't even be noticeable. Of course, the whole reason I am posting this is because it may very well end up being an incredible pain in the ass, so please hang on for a few.
You might have noticed The OddBlog got deleted. Well, there is a backup of it and all, but the server is trying to set things up where new users can just hit a button and install a WP blog on their site and the CGI got hosed, so I can't even get into the damned thing. At any rate, it is things like this that have kept us from meeting our deadlines. For anyone coming from the site who hasn't been here before (welcome!), this is where the gaming and comics talk goes on off the boards. This doesn't mean much now, but may be important for historical purposes (that sounds a lot more high-falutin' than it's meant to).
I'd like to personally apologize to Matt Thompson, 70-30, and all of [adult swim] for not getting their interview up sooner. For those of you what don't know, there was absolutely no reason for those cats to talk to a nobody like me, but they did, they were perfect gentlemen, and I did not live up to my end of the bargain because I said I was going to have this thing up and going like a month ago and I haven't gotten it up and going yet. I won't make excuses for it and I won't point-out that William's Street's AV Club has yet to get their own site right (in fact, I won't point-out how I couldn't access it via dial-up for over a year and how they lost my username and password and all of that and they've publicly admitted they couldn't get on their own website from their networked Macs!)... I mean, I wouldn't want to dredge all that up - just be a waste of ink, right?
Oh.
Well, I won't bring it up AGAIN. Gah! Like I'm even like that.
I mean, gah.
In all seriosity though, they're going in for their final stretch of the season and I had this little Q&A in the bag a month ago, so it's totally on me and I hope that their studio and the whole gang doesn't hold it against me or anyone else publishing with me. I totally understand that whatever little publicity it will give them would have been much appreciated and I am truly sorry. In fact, you can see the mock-up of the first page of the interview, but I know it is ugly (that's what mock-ups are for!). It's not a real interview, just a Q&A sort of thing - you know, for shits and giggles.
I'd also like to personally apologize to all of you who have been waiting for the site to go up because I really shouldn't have been making promises that anything would be up at any specific point in time when I knew full-well that there were technical issues that might (and would most likely) preclude my meeting these deadlines.
The original plan, lest I continue to repeat myself, was to develop the website offline and FTP it, in toto, to the server. This did not happen due to the fact that I did not have the foresight... OKAY! Due to the fact that I did not bother to really get my hands dirty and roadtest every program I thought I might need. In my defense (again), I have been doing this for many years and the real reason I didn't "bother" to do this is because I know that every server is different and - it's one of those things where you just can't make it work the way you want to. But I admit that I was fully aware of that at the time that I made those obligations and that I really did lie down on the job.
Lastly, I'd like to send my exceedingly pretty friend, Jessica, my deepest condolences on the passing of her grandmother.

The Torch Has Been Passed - Frisky Dingo Rocks
Let us take a moment to mark the passing of one of cartoondom's greatest showings in the last, oh, 50 years or so. Yes, it's true: Aqua Teen Hunger Force has jumped the shark.
Now, some of you may think that waterskiing over an actual, live shark is a bit stronger a jump to plain awful than an episode full of dicks or a completely unfunny cartoon where one of the characters develops Melanoma, but you have to admit that it's not far off. And these are the plots to two of the three newest ATHF episodes we've seen so far. This week, professional whore/pornstar, Tera Patrick, will be making a guest-appearance. Now, I don't care how you feel about pornography -- love it, hate it, find it empowering or sinful, whatever -- think about that for a moment: An adult film star is making a guest appearance on a cartoon.
That's all I'm saying.
Luckily, the same week the new season of ATHF premiered brought us the show to which it has passed the mantle: Frisky Dingo. If you haven't seen this one yet, you need to set your alarm clock (I don't know what time it comes on) and get out of bed! Frisky Dingo is the best fare [adult swim] has to offer since Venture Bros. -- and is doubly-welcome since this season of the latter hit fell so woefully short!
It has to do with a multi-billionaire superhero looking for a super-powered arch-nemesis so he can release a line of action figures, capitalizing on their relationship. Some fans will recognize the idea as being very similar to that of The Watchmen, but Frisky Dingo is hilarious. And, unlike everything on [adult swim] today except Venture Bros. (and the early seasons of ATHF), the humor derives from the characters and dialogue, as opposed to shocking language or childishly "adult" situations (like a lot of peni).
Not to mention that the art is freaking rockin!
