John Popper, formerly of Blues Traveller fame, was arrested when his van was clocked at 111 MPH the other night. When police pulled them over, they found some pot and (are you ready for this one?):
- 4 rifles
- 9 handguns
- a switchblade
- a taser
- nightvision goggles
The Big Bopper's body was exhumed and examined by Dr. Bill Bass of Knoxville, TN, at the request of the late musician's son, who never knew his father. Urban legend had it that a handgun had been found at the crash site and it might have been discharged before the plane crashed (might have been the reason it crashed, etc.). According to this same legend, the musician left the plane and died while seeking help. Bass' examination laid these ruminations to rest.
Accordingly, the musician had "fractures from head to toe. Massive fractures." The singer died immediately and certainly didn't walk away from the wreckage. A handgun was found on the scene which belonged to Buddy Holly, who also died in the crash, along with Ritchie Valens, but there was no evidence the weapon had been fired.
