Yes, this is "old" news - it's one of those that got shuffled into the bookmarks - and I apologize for that.
I've said before how I wasn't a big DC Comics fan back when I was a kid, but I got lucky one day and came across the revival of the JLA. The Justice League of America #1 issue sky-rocketed in value because it was so good, but what originally drew my attention to the book was the art. Keith Giffen was never in better form than on that series. Now a movie is being made on the classic superheroes team and George Miller (the Mad Max trilogy; Babe, Pig in the City; Happy Feet) has signed on to direct.
Though details are being kept very hush-hush, rumor has it the Justice League of America movie - slated for a 2009 release - will feature Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, the Flash, Green Lantern and Jonn J'onnz, the Martian Manhunter. But other rumors say that director Christopher Nolan is trying to keep the JLA flick down until after he wraps his many Batman projects now in development, including The Dark Knight, scheduled to be released July, 2008. There have also been rumblings from Captain Boy Scout's camp, as the sequel to 2006's Superman Returns is on hold until director Bryan Singer finishes his current WWII project with Tom "Thetan" Cruise. Neither stars of these projects (Brandon Routh, Christian Bale) are connected with the Justice League of America film.
Warner Brothers had already considered these other projects in development, but they scrapped the idea of an animated JLA feature film and are going ahead with a live-action one. They are hoping Justice League of America will whet the public's appetite for both a Wonder Woman film and one starring Flash, both of which have been floundering in development for years.

If you can't wait for the JLA movie, check out this DVD with film trailers for "World's Finest" featuring Superman and Batman; and "Grayson" about the 'death' of Batman. It will tide your appetite over until (if?) the release of the JLA movie!

Thanks. I have a good feeling the project is finally going through with the signing of Miller, but with all the internal politics going on, who knows when it will hit theaters. I have a bad feeling it may go straight to DVD, meaning we shouldn't really expect too much.
Then again, with Miller behind the camera, we have every reason to expect the best.
