It's Late... or Very Early

Yes, it's 3am and I am wide awake. Partly because of the medicine I am taking and partly just because. I really hurt when I woke up yesterday. It took until well into the afternoon to get to feeling better. Once I did, I had the bright idea of balancing my budget... and I immediately started hurting again.

Anyway, I haven't been able to keep up with all my favorite blogs and news sources lately and that's been nagging me. The Blogosphere is a hard place in which to make friends and meet colleagues and an even harder place to maintain those relationships! Just so you know, if you haven't heard from me in several months, it's because I have been going through so much personal stuff that I have had to focus on work and simply haven't been able to keep-up.

I tried several RSS readers (Bloglines was alright for a minute, but too buggy in the end), but the truth is that they were all just too confusing! I read so many blogs that by the time I plugged them all in, I could no better keep up there than I could the old-fashioned way! I also have a habit of subscribing to blogs when I read something interesting on them - most of the times, I end up dropping the subscription after a couple weeks, but I thought it the best way to keep track of interesting reads. I have so many bookmarks, folders, and sub-folders, I can never find anything twice. An RSS feeder was supposed to help alleviate that some, but - like my bookmarks - it got to where I was spending more time organizing them than reading them and I finally just gave up.

But with at least a few of those personal items out of the way and the site well into the publishing stages, I may just be able to get back into the swing of things as far as all that goes. Organization is like computer security and maintenance: it has to be done, it has to be done before you can do anything else, and once it's done I am 12082349023497x more effective and productive. It is also like security and maintenance in that it takes whole days to accomplish, so I tend to put it off until I just can't any longer.

So even though it'll basically be business as usual, I'm going to be doing all that throughout the weekend. With any luck, I will get back to where I can at least keep up with my favorite blogs and friends' posts, as well as get these bookmarks where I can actually navigate them and find shit! But that means I will also waste a lot of time trying different, new, and exciting(?) methods of organization.

Any tips are appreciated! I'm thinking of using Bloglines again, and somehow integrating some of my bookmarks into external sites so specific topics are in specific places and not all on my computer. Problem is, I have let a lot of my memberships lapse, so I don't know where to even begin.

Anyway, still awake, kinda wired, and just felt like babbling.

But if you have any good tips or ideas to help me get more out of my workday, please feel free to drop them on me!
