For those of you what don't know, blogging is a serious business. Granted, I take it somewhat flippantly even though it is the way I make money (a secondary source of income, but the most important one), but a lot of that is because I am adamant about keeping it my blog. I am not going to sell it out to sponsors/advertisers, nor am I going to let Google bully me into doing things the way they decree they should be done.
That being said, I also don't go way out of the way to intentionally run anyone off. We obviously advertise and, so long as it does not interfere with the way I want to operate, we work with Google (to the extent that we follow as many of their rules as possible - to the point that I can still, you know, actually blog).
To these extents, I have to have several codes and so forth installed so that I can see what's going on, who is visiting, what they are viewing, etc. This helps me make the place better.
However, sometimes these things slow the load time. I have a few friends still on dial-up and they all say it takes a while to load. For 15 years, I shaped everything I did so that even dial-up users could access it without problems. I did this because I ran a BBS for years on a 2400 baud modem - so I know from slow!
But it's 2008, guys. While some people have valid reasons, most people who do not have broadband access simply do not want to pay for it. Trust me, I completely understand not having money, but since I spend the vast majority of my time online, I brokedown and shell-out the money for broadband and I want to enjoy it.
For all of you on dial-up, I really am not doing anything to run you off, but it's 2008 guys!
Still, if you are experiencing really long load times, please let me know. There are some things I can do to help it, but if it's not taking much longer than other sites that are designed to work best on hi-speed, then all I can do is apologize.
The text should load within a few seconds, though the sidebar could take as long as a minute, and the icon at the top may continue working the entire time you're on the page. So long as you can read the posts and navigate the pages, just ignore it. If you are experiencing load times longer than this, please let me know and I'll see what I can do.
But, again, if you have a Win98, or even an XP, box with 231490732478979 songs, a few dozen movies, 234097090979 pictures, 234097897 games, etc., and are using dial-up... well? What do you really expect?
