Flintstones Rocking Onto Broadway?

Don't slate your calendar just yet, but writer Marco Pennette has been pegged to pen a Flintstones musical for Broadway. According to reports, the show features the well-known TV cast tackling modern issues in the Stone Age. Wilma contemplates leaving Fred because he has never "evolved" as a man or in their relationship, while Betty and Barney grapple with infertility issues before deciding to adopt.

Maybe it's just me, but this sounds like quite possibly the stupidest idea I have heard in a while. And I write about comic books! While the Flintstones TV show was essentially your basic sit-com (really, it was basically an animated version of the Honeymooners) and played with modern issues on its own, they were never "real," heavy, hard-hitting issues. Relevant or no, they were light-hearted themes that may have hinted at deeper matters, but never grappled with them head-on.

Broadway, like Hollow-wood, is bereft of talent and can do no better. And has no one but themselves to blame for it.

YABBA-DABBA DUD!
