Just in time for the movie release in China and the U.S., Tezuka Productions Co. and D-Arc Inc. have announced the arrival of Weekly Astro Boy Magazine for the iPhone. The Magazine features the original Astro Boy manga in 100-page installments. Viewers will be able to enjoy the manga in English (and Chinese, as appropriate) and zoom-in on specific cels. The first volume is FREE; subsequent volumes of Weekly Astro Boy Magazine will be 99¢ each.
Osamu Tezuka created and released the original Astro Boy manga in the 1950s. In the 1960s, it became a cartoon which was eventually shown worldwide. The Astro Boy cartoon (most recently seen on American TV through [adult swim]) inspired generations of animators, spawning the now famous "anime" style of cartooning. Tezuka, now deceased, came to be known as the "God of Manga."
Weekly Astro Boy Magazine will include some of Tezuka's other manga, including Phoenix, Black Jack, and more.
