TekWar Chronicles: Plague of Ghosts, a graphic novel containing the first four issues of Bluewater Productions’ comic adaptation of William Shatner’s TekWar novels will be released this December.
TekWar Chronicles: Plague of Ghosts is loosely based on the original 1989 novel which centers on a disgraced former 22nd-Century police officer mysteriously released from prison for a crime he is certain he did not commit. Finding himself lost in a world that has changed since his incarceration, Jake Cardigan tries to put his life back together only to be lured back into the dark world of a digital drug called Tek.
Shatner was recently in New York, promoting the comic book series at the Big Apple Comic Con. "Revisiting the world of Tek has been very gratifying," said the entertainment icon. "It's got action, sex, intrigue; I think we’ve created an exciting new mythology based on my books that any fan of science-fiction or noir will enjoy."
The book, which contains a complete story arc, includes the 12-page prologue originally published as the promotional give-away for Free Comic Book Day last May. It also includes all the alternate covers of the first four issues and a foreword by Shatner. Co-written with Bluewater veteran scribe, Scott Davis, and illustrated by Erich Owen, the 108-page novel is considerably darker and grittier than the original novels.
"The book is not only for people who enjoyed the TekWar novels and TV series," said Davis, "but whether you call it an adaptation, a reboot, or a re-imagination, readers will find enough of the source material to make it very recognizable, and enough new turns and twists to keep them guessing."
TekWar Chronicles is a continuing monthly series published through Bluewater. Early next year, Bluewater will publish two other titles based on Shatner novels (Quest for Tomorrow and Man O’ War) and a brand new original concept developed by the actor specifically for Bluewater,,Chimera.
The suggested retail price (SRP) for the upcoming trade paperback is $15.99.
