RIP: Peter Steele, Type O Negative

While there was a similar rumor a few years back regarding Type O Negative frontman and bassist, Peter Steele, more than one metal site is claiming confirmation of his death. Peter Steele was 48.

The 2005 stunt was just that: An attempt to stir-up interest in the band, whose popularity had waned considerably since their 1990's heyday. Type O Negative had switched labels, and leaked a picture of Steele's headstone, which said he had died that year. The ploy did not work too well.

Type O Negative specialized in rhythmic, doom-metal-type music, with emo lyrics and a pop sensibility. They achieved minor fame in the 1990s with a string of radio-friendly hits, and received a lot of play in strip clubs. Allegedly.
