Ray Harryhausen is the most popular stop-motion animator in the world. His creations graced the screen in such classic films as Jason and the Argonauts, the original Clash of the Titans, and Robocop. Stop-motion animation has since fallen out of favor in Hollywood - which is weird, because CGI is hardly better - and Harryhausen is now nearing his 90th birthday, but he made time to speak to Horatia Harrod.
While stop-motion animation is admittedly jerky, I have always maintained it could be made better - more fluid, better integrated into its surroundings - with the addition of CGI. It seems, to me, a combination of the two would provide for amazing results, but I have neither the patience nor the know-how to find out for myself. Still, CGI sucks. Seeing as how they're remaking every movie ever released since 1978 anyway, maybe someone out there will take-up the attempt?
Oh, and so long as we're on the subject, Hollo-wood: YOU ONLY REMAKE THE BAD MOVIES, STUPID. The bad ones.
Nevertheless, enjoy the interview.
