Was World Record Attempt a Hoax?

Only eight people showed-up Saturday on the corner of Highland and Hollywood in Los Angeles after reading a Craigslist ad asking for participants dressed as superheroes in an attempt to break the standing world record for most people dressed as superheroes. The current Guinness World Record belongs to Australia (Melbourne - 1,245).

Some are saying the Craigslist ad was simply a hoax, as the organizer himself did not bother to show.
