Comic Books and WoW Fail

So I assumed the new World of Warcraft patch, which I and many others had eagerly anticipated for some time, would keep me preoccupied but the truth is that I just haven't been feeling it lately. I went in and did a handful of the new quests but there haven't been a lot of people on now that school has started back and I got burned-out after waiting in queue for 45 minutes or more for every raid and dungeon week after week. I was literally spending three or four hours futzing around on WoW just waiting in queue.

As I've noted before, I haven't been reading comic books in years now for various reasons, the most pertinent of which being that most of them are little more than commercials for other comics. They are written in six parts so that they can later be collected into trade paperbacks and resold. The industry demolished the back-issue market, effectively destroying any collectibility of new product and that was half the fun of comic books - comic book collecting. A lot of creators these days - writers and editors, specifically - use their titles more as personal soapboxes than as a medium for entertainment and pander to the lowest common denominator just to move units.

Still, I'm tired of being cynical and decided to go through some of the shipments I've received over the last couple of years to find something worth reading. I haven't actually read any of them yet, though I did go through them to pull a stack I plan on reading once I'm in the mood. I also followed a bunch of creators and companies on Facebook just to keep up with whatever they have to post.

I am trying to watch horror flicks for 31 Days of Horror but I haven't really been into watching much of anything lately, especially if it's longer than half an hour or I have to pay attention to it. My recent favorites include Drunk History, Quickdraw, Moone Boy, and Spy. I have watched a handful though and plan on watching more. Last year's strategy had me doing several reviews in advance, which is what I am doing this year, and I still have a week and a half before the season starts, so I think I'm right about on schedule. Christine has also agreed to throw in a few reviews of her own as well, although she isn't a fan of the straight horror genre so I'm expecting more Halloween-themed goodies than splatterflicks. Roku has added about five new horror stations just in the last couple of months, so that helps as well.

As I wrote on her blog, I have a writing project I would really like to delve into but it takes some research and it's going to be a lot of work. I usually suffer from a fear of success but it's quite the opposite with this one; I can only hope my submission is up to snuff and gets selected for inclusion. While the pay would be nice, it isn't much; this is more a passion project that I hope will bring me some legitimacy and another publishing credit (thus ensuring higher pay in the future). Not to mention the fact that I love the author's work and this project in particular which I find reminiscent of Lovecraft's Cthulhu Mythos and I would love to be a part of it.

I hope to blog more soon but you will have an entire month of daily posts starting week after next, so take heart Dear Readers! And, as always, thanks for reading!

Hey Sweetie, I do actually have something planned for the Halloween thing. I may not be a huge horror flick fan, but I love mysteries and things of the sort.

I haven't read a comic book since Bill Bixby was thumbing it down the road at the end of every Hulk episode. I have, however, seen every X-Men movie made except for this last one. Can't wait to see it or the new Riddick movie. Pitch Black is one of THE best movies ever.

I'm working on some ideas for the site and thanks for posting on mine.

Keep on keeping on my friend. :)
