Primus was, in many ways, emblematic of the 1990s - they embody the irreverent, offbeat sensibility that lead to pop-cultural touchstones as Lollapalooza and The Jim Rose Sideshow Circus.
Primus' music defined the "Alternative" movement which originally referred to prog rock bands such as Jane's Addiction and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. The term was eventually hijacked by corporate interests who used it as an umbrella under which they pushed pop rock.
