Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip was FANTASTIC!

Well, if you missed it tonight, you missed easily the best episode since the pilot - possibly even better! With the possible exception of the one where they got caught with pot (guest starring John Goodman).

[SPOILERS]

It seems like the show already got a bit of a retooling, as there was a lot more comedy in this episode than in most. I had been saying, even while it was still on the regular schedule, that it started out strong like this - much like a Boston Legal sans "quirkiness" - then quickly dove into the romantic angles between four of the main characters, only one of which appeared in tonight's episode.

I hate to say it, but Matt and Danny's absence really didn't stand out that much. Sure, I kept thinking about it, but only because it was so glaring. What I mean by all of this is that, though they were missed, their collective absence did not hurt the show. Is this possibly a kind of test drive to see how it works without them; meaning they will be written-out and the show might be picked up without the high-profile top stars? Possibly by another NBC-owned network (such as USA or Bravo)?

I'm still bowled-over by Steven Weber's performance in every episode. And Alison Janney can do no wrong. I was also really impressed with D.L. Hughley's (sp?) performance - in fact, I've really enjoyed him on every episode in which he's played a key role (which has been most of them).

A really funny, brilliantly written and executed, episode that stayed bright, upbeat, and breezy, while still managing to forward the story.

BRING BACK STUDIO 60!
