The mayor of the small Oregonian town, Arlington, is in some hot water with her constituents due to a racy photo of her in her underwear on one of the town's firetrucks that was discovered on her MySpace profile. Though the picture was taken years before she was elected and is now viewable only by those on her Friends list, anyone was able to see them prior to this coming to light.
In her defense, Mayor Carmen Kontur-Gronquist gave no defense: "There's a lot of officials that have a personal life, and you have people in this community who have nothing better to do than scrape up stuff like this." Arlington, Oregon has about 500 residents.
I have to applaud the mayoress' moxy here. Just as she said, this has nothing to do with her job nor abilities as a mayor; this was something from her personal life that is nowhere near as scandalous as half the stuff most politicians do and should not even be an issue! I understand that some of the townsfolk are upset because of the supposed "image" it gives their town, but that's pretty ridiculous; it would be one thing if she had, say, been caught smoking crack in a motel room, or maybe had a series of affairs with a string of women across the country while in office, but a picture of her in her underwear on her MySpace page?
Grow up, people. Get jobs or lives or something!
