Sowing the Seeds to Save 4400

Taking their cue from fans of the CBS show, Jericho, fans of the USA sci-fi drama, 4400, are attempting to get their favorite show back on-air with a campaign involving sunflower seeds.

One of the characters of the show, Dr. Kevin Burkhoff, has a taste for the snack, so fans are sending bags of sunflower seeds to network executives. When CBS canceled the sci-fi drama, Jericho, fans began a campaign to save the show which consisted of them sending CBS executives nuts. The campaign worked and Jericho was not only picked up for a second season, it is going into syndication on the Sci-Fi Channel.

However, 4400 has been on for several years and it was once one of USA's bigger draws. Since it has a proven track record and ratings, the outlook is probably not as good as it was for Jericho; the hype and heyday is passed.

Still, fans are hopeful and active. One sunflower seed retailer in North Dakota reported sales of over 1500 bags by the end of Thursday, one day before the campaign actually began.
