Quick Bits

I try to only post 1-2 posts per day on each blog. The problem now is that, since I am down to two blogs, I often have a lot to say on one or more subjects at least once or twice a week. That means that one or two days a week, I will write literally a series of posts on one or more topics, save them in Draft form, and publish them throughout the week. (Not including any sponsored posts.) When news crops up between these instances, I post on that and every once in a while, I'll do several posts in one day on the same blog (but since I am working on the site so much, that's rare anymore).

At any rate, I have much more to say on the whole Creators' Rights issue, the form and distribution involved online, and the rest, but I've decided to keep it on The Wording, as it just fits better there. At any rate, feel free to comment more here or hop over there, if you're interested in more of the discussion.

Sci-Fi is premiering their new series, Jake 2.0, tonight in Doctor Who's old timeslot (7:00 PM, CST). While over to the BBCA, they've been running spots for a new series called Robin Hood that looks interesting. The cool thing about the BBC doing a series based on Robin Hood is that none of the characters will have American accents...

But to be fair, Costner's Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves was not a bad movie. If you're familiar with AD&D 2nd-Ed., you'll notice how close to the game the movie sticks. In fact, it sort of fits the whole Robin Hood mythology into D&D gaming terms and roles. Not to mention that it was pretty funny to see Christian Slater pull off a semi-successful British accent in interplay with Kevin Costner (who didn't even bother).

After that, check out Gunslinger Girl on IFC, then Bubba Ho-Tep with Bruce Campbell ("Oh, Ashe!")! This is IFC's new Grindhouse program, obviously created to compete directly with TCM's Underground, which is showing Pam Grier blaxploitation vehicles all night, if you're into that sort of thing (yes, Foxy Brown is the feature). Sci-Fi Saturdays on BBCA is the only thing worth watching on the dial... if you've ever questioned whether the media and entertainment industry is out of touch with the people, realize that the only thing on Saturday nights worth watching is BBCA's Sci-Fi Saturday. Should I be offended or just own it? You decide.

[adult swim] returns to their regular irregular schedule Sunday, with new episodes of Moral Orel, if nothing else. And The Rush Hour Channel is now showing 5-hour marathons of the Charmed chicks every Monday (not to mention the other two hours in the morning). Everyone on Charmed is so pretty that I'm surprised more young people don't get involved in the Occult.

i Adore Bruce Campbell.
Remind me to tell you about my brief sort-of meeting with Bruce one day. I'm not star-struck by many but Bruce is one of them.

Thanks for the Tip on Bubba it's the one movie i havn't actually seen yet.

I am so uninformed -- not even misinformed, because I just plain didn't bother to look it up -- Jake 2.0 is not a new series, but I've never heard of it and they certainly promoted it as a "new" series. Seemed to me, anyway.

Did you catch Bubba Ho-Tep? It was the first time I'd seen it, too, even though I've heard about it often enough. It was pretty good -- not great, but it definitely had its moments and it certainly has some quotable lines!

But the kicker was the following feature, May, which I began reviewing here last night after watching it, but it's one of those films where you just can't get too in-depth without giving everything away. Still, both were pretty fair fare.

On April 6, Grindhouse is showing a double-feature from Rodriguez and Tarantino (one first, then the other). They're two films I've personally never heard of, but that doesn't mean much. Tarantino's looks like his trademarked, darkly-comedic pulp fiction in overdrive, but we'll have to wait and see.
