Happy Memorial Day!

I hope everyone's weekend went well and that you are all enjoying the warm weather. It's sunny here, but too hot to do anything except stay inside and watch the Dr. Who marathon on BBCA. It was 90ยบ here at 1:15 PM; it's about the same at 3:00.

I wasn't going to drink today, but I have about a 6-pack leftover from the Hex marathon last night, so I figured why not? Always good to get a little hair o' the dog in you to cure that nasty hangover bug. But drinking is not really my agenda today.

One of the things about living alone - one of the big things - is that it's a real pain to fix big meals. No one's going to eat them with you, so you end up with a lot of leftovers, and after 2-3 days of eating them, you just get sick of whatever it is and wind-up throwing most of it out. Further, your sink fills up with dirty dishes and there's no one to wash them but you! All in all, a big meal takes a good 2 days to prepare and clean. And usually about a week to eat.

But you just have to eat once in a while, and Memorial Day is a great day for that. The menu? Sure:
  • Breakfast chops in cream o mushroom soup with fresh onions, season salt, and fresh herbs from the windowsill box (basil, chives, more)
  • Green beans with neckbones, diced fresh onion, butter, and a dash o' lemonpepper
  • Great, big, fat butter beans with neckbones and pepper
  • Macaroni and cheese (from a box)
  • Cornbread muffins
I may not do the muffins though, because something apparently boiled-over in the oven and the other night, it filled the house with smoke and set off the alarms at like 11:00 at night!

Still, I'll be eating like a king for the next several days. And, so long as the checks I wrote this weekend don't come in all at once and my PayPal money gets in there by Wednesday, everything should go swimmingly!
