Free Porn!

Technically, it's called a "teaser," but yeah, I lied. Sorta:

This past weekend on Red Eye, they had pornlet, Savannah Samson, who discussed how mad she was at free online porn, as well as those who are making it. To their credit, Greg and the gang listened impassionately and gave her the chance to discuss her (it's just one of those days, y'all) POSITION on the matter and I had to shake my head:

Apparently, the porn industry (they love to call it a "community") is a little riled over the whole internet porn industry. They feel it is taking food out of their mouths. Porn sales are down a lot, supposedly, over the past couple of years and they are blaming it on amateur porn distributed over the internet. Give me a fricking break!

Look, I know a little bit about this industry and they have been SEVERELY downplaying their sales for decades now. The pornography industry in America is far and away the biggest money-making enterprise on the planet, so if sales are down even 50%, they are still making more than most countries!

Sorry if I don't feel sorrier for them, but let's put this into perspective: these are not "actors," they are prostitutes. Now I don't really have a problem with what they do, but I definitely have a problem with someone trying to force me into accepting that what they do takes anymore talent than pretending not to be bored while having sex with someone you hardly know. Because, if that's the measuring stick, pretty much everyone is an "actor."

These people are not "artists," they are pimps and whores, and nothing else! They are not taxed, they are not unionized, they are a decriminalized criminal empire. The "performers" are "escorts" who have sex for money; no matter what euphemisms and softened words they employ, the only important thing for me is that the people who appear in these movies are making money for having sex and the ones who do not are making money off of people who have sex. Pimps and hookers, people.

I mean, I'd find it a lot easier to drum-up some support for their fallacious little huff if they didn't try so hard to be so "clever" - if they weren't so snarky and self-serving about what they do. So, if these people are so aboveboard and porn is such a non-issue, then why isn't it a straightforward business instead of "the invisible empire" we all know it to be?

High-definition TV and free amateur porn on the internet is taking food out of your mouths? Most food is too modest to go in a hooker's mouth and speed freaks don't eat all that much. I mean, come on! The only difference in these porn "stars'" lives is that now they'll be having sex for money off-camera - and absolutely none of them should act like they haven't done that before.

You have sex for cash and that's prostitution. I'm not saying it's right or it's wrong, I'm just saying that it doesn't take any real talent or ability to do what you do, no matter how much bullshit you throw our way (phrases like that sound completely different when it comes to porn, don't they?). The very fact that the industry is upset over the success of "homegrown" porn literally proves that anyone with a camera can make it and make money from it.

The real point is that, regardless of what the world leaders tell you, just because you make money from something or you film it does not make it okay or legal - contract or no. I do not think porn is bad at appropriate times and places; I do not think that prostitution is necessarily a bad or Evil thing; but saying you're doing one thing when you are actually doing another is wrong, no matter if everyone around you is willing to agree with your revisionist outlook on the matter.

This is one of the main reasons the rest of the world hates us so much - and it's a very good reason.
