The resurgence of comic books' popularity has already given rise to the retro movement. Old comics heroes no one's heard from or about in... sometimes ever are crawling out of the woodwork already. I can only guess it has to do with the fact that so many of us are trying to get back into the hobby, but there's also the fact that there are a whole lot of cool characters that no one's ever really done anything with and with the whole issue of creators' rights and so forth, this is a great idea I've always championed.
And this seems to be taking place across the spectrum. Conan and Red Sonja are both coming back pretty strong (at different companies), DC recently did some revisionist work on their history and universe in the series 52 and is now continuing that concept with a new maxi-series, Countdown, and Marvel did some serious revising in their Civil War and the Hulk thing.
And while I think this is a good thing and definitely looks like it could be a lot of fun, I just want to warn against getting too involved in this because a lot of these titles are going to drop right off shortly after they begin. In fact, I'll go so far as to say this smacks to me of the failed New Universe and 2099 concepts Marvel tried years ago and I have an idea that its fate will be largely the same.
Of course, this is a whole concept they are pushing across the industry, so I'm just extrapolating on a hypothesis and it don't mean nothing, but I really thought this push (which comes about once every few years or so) would come a little later on, when sales are really going back in the crapper (another cyclical industry trend). Take it for what it's worth.
