I thought I would drop by and drop a little information on you as to who reads The Rundown and all the stuff we here to The Rundown see behind the scenes. I know some of you don't really care about things like this, but some of you may and sponsors surely do. I find it interesting myself for a lot of reasons, but I don't depend on this sort of information for anything really. Like I've said before, I don't write for the sponsors and I don't write for the audience; I write whatever I want to talk about and hope the rest of you enjoy it.
I know some people don't like sponsored posts and some of them are pretty vocal about it, but taking on sponsored posts is what allows me to spend so much time blogging, so I appreciate our sponsors and the opportunities they present us. But we don't take any sponsors that require we write a certain way or refrain from certain subjects or language on non-sponsored posts. Of course, many of them don't sponsor adult-oriented blogs, but since this isn't one (and I've no desire to run or write one), it doesn't matter to me. That is to say that if I wanted to discuss adult things, I would, and sponsors would either sign on or they wouldn't.
Anyway, we average about 50 visitors a day. I say average because we usually get at least 75-80 at least once a week and then around 40 most of the other days. While weekends usually garner slightly fewer hits, we still usually manage to get around 30 visits both days. Our best day so far was July 31st; we had over 1600 visitors that single day. According to the Analytics reports, viewers spend an average of 5 minutes on the site, but since I often go back through and read a lot of the blog for edits, I don't think that's very accurate. In fact, the reports also show that even though most visitors hit the front page, many of them leave without going on to the next one(s).
Our most popular content so far was when Steve Martin got married and the post on Brian Harnois (of Ghost Hunters fame). The latter has generated the most comments of any post so far, but we also had a pretty good discussion concerning Creators' Rights back in our infancy here. The Rundown used to be hosted on the old GeoCities site. I had a template I used in Dreamweaver and later another program and I would rundown the day's news, talk about comics, politics - all the things we do here now, just slightly different and in a far more acerbic manner.
We are lucky in that we tend to get at least a handful of comments most every week. In fact, I think the longest we have gone without a comment is about 10 days.
On the sidebar, you will find a number of features, including an online RSS reader (the blue button that says "Rocket") and a Voting Button down toward the bottom. If you like what you see and enjoy our blathering, we would love for you to vote for us. This brings more visitors and thus more comments. We are always excited to hear from you, no matter if you agree with us or not! If you have your own blog or website, go ahead and leave us the link so we can check it out.
In the near future, we may also be looking for guest bloggers, so if you enjoy blogging, have your own blog (regardless of what you tend to talk about) or website, and would like to participate, make sure to let us know! We are always looking to hear from other bloggers and will happily link to you as long as you link back to us.
