Well, this month has been a busy one offline, so there is that, but you have obviously noticed the slow-down here to The Rundown, and I felt it incumbent upon me to explain. Seeing as how, you know, I write it.
Yes, this month has been busy offline and seeing as how there's only one week left, it isn't going to get any better. Further, the first week of every month is pretty slow because it's bill-paying time, so while I'm sure there will be a few days o' flurried posting, things probably won't get back to our regular 5+ posts/day for another couple weeks. I apologize for it, but it's out of my control; as you can see from the archives, whenever possible (and when my health allows for it), I enjoy little better than opining on everything under the sun right here for you to read.
But another thing is that, even before the Google Smackdown which basically made us impossible to find - and knocked a very active Comments community down so far, so fast, that I am exuberant to find the errant piece of spam once a month or so - I had taken on some extra things. Not projects, per se, but I mean like, I took out more magazine subscriptions - something I'd refrained from for the past several years because I hardly read the ones I already subscribe to; I met a few people and started going out and/or staying in with them more often; I joined some websites specifically to play games and/or talk to others with no higher goal (such as promotion, marketing, networking, or anything other than just having fun); so on and so forth.
The problem is that, since the Google Smackdown, I haven't been making enough money to cover all these new things and have had to work 23409234902374 times harder than I was then just to make ends meet, and it's taking its toll. That's what Google wants: they crack the whip and we slaves either fall in-line or they'll crack that whip again; Google wants to make damned sure we all know they own us and we either do wtf Google says or else!
I get it, Google - I get it: My name is 'Toby.'
Unfortunately, I do not exactly thrive under such oppressive and extortive censorship, so a lot of the fun is gone. Some may say, "It isn't the fun you're missing, Toby - it's the money," and I will concede: getting paid to do something you really enjoy is fun. And my name ain't 'Toby.'
So, I'm having to find other ways of making money, which has taken time away from being able to work here or on the website or enjoy the things I like - and am now struggling just to afford!
So, I still have plenty to say, and until Google decides I's just too uppity and shuts the blog down entirely and I move it to a new server and all that, I'll still be here, trudging along. Unfortunately, I am having to completely restructure my life, schedule, and work in the meantime so's n dat dere Google don't goes n gits dat whip agin!
And try my best to escape this backwoods county in the middle of this backwoods Red State, which Google is doing their best to make sure I cannot afford to do - just to teach this slave his lesson! And I'm obviously wearing thin lately.
Not to mention that I used to work through the evening, well into the late-night, then got into the habit of working during the day for the past year or so, and am now finding I do better work at night again (plus, I've been sharing the computer) which is not good, since these awful, horrible "neighbors" surrounding me party until 5:00 and wake up at 7:00 (the joys of crack)... just, wearing a little thin.
Ah... yeah. Thin.
