You might have read recently that Will Smith was offered the role of Captain America in an upcoming Marvel movie. According to at least one source, this rumor was forwarded by actor, Derek Luke, as picked-up on by MTV. Luke has nothing to do with the movie, but said he knew the part had been offered to Smith.
While Cap is white, there was a black Captain America for a while, and other Marvel characters have made color changes between the funnybook pages and the silver screen. However, this was all just a rumor - a rumor that has been debunked by Marvel themselves!
Marvel spokespeople denied they ever offered the role to Smith and currently have no plans to do so. However, some are pushing for it now that the rumor has taken hold.
Personally, I see nothing wrong with it, but I don't think it should be done. Smith is not buff enough and... well? He isn't white enough. Again, there is nothing wrong with Smith taking on the cowl and shield, it just wouldn't be... Cap.
