That's crazy, right? But here we are, six years later. And here's what I'm listening to, watching, and generally doing other than blogging... this year, so far:
I don't "do" Resolutions because being disappointed in myself is a daily exercise.
HollowPonds Solo Saga has been on the YouTubes lately. I really love solo gaming and everything about it, but getting rid of GMs entirely is out of the question. If I feel antagonistic toward my GM, or that s/he is operating in bad faith, I'll find another one, but I'm not going to get rid of the role of the GM altogether. I'd find a better game or system instead, if I felt the GM was superfluous.
I'm also digging Lone Adventurer, Grungeon Master, XP to Level 3, and Just in Time Worlds, among others. The AI Guy is fulfilling my live play needs.
I had been jamming Pyrexia but that's, like, so 2024... and 1993 and 2025 and 2026 - nevermind. Oh! I had a nostalgic jag there for a moment as I was searching for one-hit wonders from the 1990s. Actually, I was searching specifically for Albatross and Bittersweet Symphony (both of which I shared here) and got caught-up in all the other videos that were suggested.
Whenever I'm researching anything, the sensationalistic stuff that everyone remembers is always secondary; I go to the other stuff: The background material, what was going on in the rest of the field at the same time. No one ever remembers that stuff until they see or hear it, then everything else falls into place. It often offers insight into why the sensationalized stuff got so big and came to define those eras.
I'm still making my way through Angel and Buffy (again again again), but I'm also rewatching 30 Rock and Castle - and that's all Hulu. About everything else I'm watching is gaming-related and on YouTube, including iCrime. Once I figure out the current project, I'll be back to watching a wider range of things, but that's what I'm doing now.
Of course, I'm still reading Buffy the Vampire Slayer Roleplaying Game, but I got Ghosts of Albion along the way, and that's where my attentions lay at the moment. This, too, shall pass; but, it's what I'm reading at the moment. I'm trying not to get caught-up in the gaslight of it all, because I do have a soft spot for the Victorian Age and games set in it and it's really well-done on that front, but I want to finish what I'm doing with Angel and the Buffyverse RPG first.
To those ends, I'm reading no fewer than three supplements at the same time, and there's more after that. Luckily, I have a handle on the system, so although I am definitely finding great stuff to put in my game, what I've done so far is more than just close enough - it's either dead-on or so close as to be imperceptible from the "official rules." Don't forget I dropped the PCN stat in favor of an (INT+Notice [PCN]) roll; I still include it for those who prefer keeping it in their games, so no matter which way you go with that, your bases should be covered, as well.
So, what I'm reading is not at all at-odds with what I've published, it simply covers a lot of the ground I was trying to fill-in for my game - which is terribly exciting. And I haven't scratched the surface; there are still more books to get through, so I'm continuing on my quest to make the Cinematic UniSystem my system of choice. Even though I still have yet to get it to a table... what if it really blows chunks?
I hope not.
